Elyse's Approach

With a masters (MA) in Mindfulness-Based Transpersonal Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Naropa University, Elyse has received specialized trainings in mindfulness techniques, transpersonal practices, compassion, and Gestalt in addition to the traditional counseling curriculum required for licensure such as psychological assessment and diagnosis, human growth and development, addictions, research, and multicultural foundations. Naropa University is known for their contemplative education, which creates an experiential container for their students to advance in their own personal growth in preparation to take the seat of the counselor.

With an Advanced Certification in Post-Traumatic Growth Somatic Therapy by Southwest Trauma Training, Elyse wholeheartedly believes in the potential for growth and transformation that can emerge from challenging and traumatic experiences. With the specialized approach, Elyse supports and empowers her clients to navigate and harness the power of post-traumatic growth. In her sessions, she encourages her clients to explore how their struggles have shaped them and to identify the strengths and newfound perspectives that have arisen as a result of their challenges. By integrating somatic techniques with post-traumatic growth principles, Elyse helps her clients move stuck trauma through their bodies and build a sense of empowerment and agency over their lives. With mindful somatic awareness and exploration of developmental wounding, this approach helps clients build self-awareness and discover their innate healing capacity.

Before entering graduate school, Elyse developed expertise in psychedelic integration through received her coaching certification in Transformational Psychedelic Integration Coaching from Being True To You. With this, Elyse recognizes the profound potential these experiences have in fostering personal growth and healing. Elyse offers both psychedelic preparation and integration sessions for clients who are choosing to engage in a relationship with these medicines. In these sessions Elyse helps clients tap into the healing potential of these experiences while offering guidance and support to nurture the meaning and insights received.

In addition to Elyse’s education and trainings, she has cultivated life experiences that have led her to embody the importance of healing through right relationship and deep connection to self, earth, and all beings. With this, Elyse incorporates an earth-based and ecopsychological approach with clients by encouraging more time spent with nature, engaging in both community and self-led nature-based ceremonies, and cultivating a gentle and mindful balance in their approach to life.

Here are a few definitions to help you understand Elyse’s approach:

What is Transpersonal counseling?

Transpersonal experiences are in essence experiences that facilitate connection with what is larger then or outside our individual subjective experience. A transpersonal approach to counseling recognizes the interconnection of all things with a focus on the connection between the mind-body-spirit. With this orientation, there is a holistic approach to treatment that, unlike traditional counseling, focuses on the body and the spirit just as much as the mind.

What is Somatic counseling?

Somatic therapies are body-centered, also called a “bottom-up” approach, versus traditional counseling, a more “top-down” approach. In somatic therapy, we are consistently tracking and involving the body's language of sensation. Somatic therapies have shown to be particularly effective for trauma and stress-related symptoms by regulating the nervous system and modifying the response.
